Sensitive Data Visibility for India’s DPDPA.

Purpose-built visibility into sensitive personal data access, user access risk, and audit readiness — mapped to the requirements of India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA).

Last reviewed: Sep 2026

India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, starting an 18-month phased compliance window. This isn’t a distant regulation — it has real, dated milestones already in motion. The DPDPA Compliance add-on gives you visibility into who can access personal data fields within SAP and whether that access is justified, mapped directly to what DPDPA compliance reviews will expect.

Classify Sensitive Data Fields

Personal and sensitive data fields within SAP are identified and tagged as DPDPA-relevant.

Map Access Against Classification

Every user/role with access to those fields is evaluated for whether that access is justified.

Generate Audit-Ready Evidence

Documentation is produced in a form aligned to what DPDPA compliance reviews are expected to request.

Sensitive Data Visibility

See which users and roles can access personal and sensitive data fields within SAP.

Access Risk Mapping

Access risk is evaluated specifically against DPDPA-relevant data categories.

Audit Readiness

Generate documentation and evidence aligned to what DPDPA compliance reviews expect.

Ongoing Monitoring

Sensitive data access is monitored continuously, not just reviewed at audit time.

DPDPA Compliance Timeline (as publicly reported)
13 Nov 2025DPDP Rules notified by MeitY — starts the 18-month phased compliance window.
~13 Nov 202612-month mark: Consent Manager registration framework opens (entities enabling data principals to manage consent across platforms).
13 May 202718-month mark: full substantive compliance becomes enforceable — notice, consent, security safeguards, breach reporting, and data-principal rights obligations all apply from this date.
Dates reflect publicly reported DPDP Rules timelines as of this build. A proposal to compress the Significant Data Fiduciary compliance window from 18 to 12 months was reported in Jan 2026 but had not been confirmed as settled law — verify current status with your legal/compliance advisor before finalizing internal deadlines.
Reported Penalty Ranges for Non-Compliance (as publicly reported)
Failure to maintain reasonable security safeguardsUp to ₹250 crore
Breach-notification failuresUp to ₹200 crore
Children’s data failuresUp to ₹200 crore
Significant Data Fiduciary failuresUp to ₹150 crore
General non-complianceUp to ₹50 crore
Penalties are reported as applying per violation and can stack. Figures reflect publicly reported ceilings as of this build — confirm current amounts with legal counsel, as penalty structures can be revised.

Is DPDPA similar to GDPR?

Conceptually related, but not identical — for example, DPDPA does not recognize ‘legitimate interest’ as a basis for processing the way GDPR does; consent is the primary basis.

Do we need to act now if the deadline is 2027?

The 18-month window is meant to be used as an active implementation runway, not idle time — organizations that start readiness work in 2026 avoid a scramble as 2027 approaches.
