Access Governance Aligned to EU Data Protection.

Visibility into who can access personal data within SAP, and whether that access is justified — supporting GDPR’s privacy-by-design and accountability principles.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been in force since 25 May 2018 and applies to any organization processing the personal data of EU residents, regardless of where that organization is headquartered. GDPR is built on principles like lawful basis for processing, data minimization, and accountability — meaning organizations must be able to demonstrate compliance, not just claim it. SimpAudit supports the access-governance side of that: visibility into who can reach personal data within SAP and whether that access is proportionate.

Lawful Basis for Processing

Personal data processing must rest on one of GDPR’s defined lawful bases (consent, contract, legal obligation, etc.).

Data Minimization

Access to personal data should be limited to what’s necessary for the stated purpose.

Accountability & Documentation

Organizations must be able to demonstrate compliance through records and audit trails, not just assert it.

Breach Notification

Personal data breaches must generally be reported to regulators within 72 hours of discovery.

Compliance Cadence
In force since 25 May 2018GDPR is a standing legal obligation, not a future deadline — organizations processing EU personal data must already be compliant.
OngoingAccess reviews, data protection impact assessments, and breach-notification readiness are continuous obligations, not annual events.
There is no future ‘deadline’ for GDPR — it has applied since 2018. Enforcement guidance continues to evolve.
Statutory Penalty Ranges
Lower-tier violationsUp to €10 million or 2% of global annual turnover
Higher-tier violationsUp to €20 million or 4% of global annual turnover
Whichever figure is higher applies. These maximums have been part of GDPR’s text since it took effect in 2018 — confirm current enforcement trends with legal counsel, as regulators’ actual fining patterns evolve.

Personal Data Access Mapping

See exactly which SAP users and roles can reach personal data fields.

Proportionality Checks

Flag access that exceeds what a role plausibly needs — supporting data minimization.

Audit Trail for Accountability

Every access check is logged, supporting GDPR’s documentation-based accountability principle.

Does GDPR apply to us if we’re not based in the EU?

GDPR can apply extraterritorially if you process the personal data of individuals in the EU — confirm applicability with legal counsel.

Is GDPR similar to India’s DPDPA?

Conceptually related, but not identical — for example, DPDPA does not recognize ‘legitimate interest’ as a lawful basis the way GDPR does.
